A verse by verse study of the Gospel According to Matthew covers chapters 16 through 20. It is in chapter 16 that Peter makes his bold confession of Jesus as "the Christ, the Son of the living God," and the promise of the New Testament Church is given (vv.16,18). In chapter 17 we encounter the scene of the Transfiguration. Chapter 18 deals with the absolute necessity for service and humility in the Christian life.
